my name

my name is quah zheng wei.
this is the sentence that i have repeated for copious of time whenever meeting new people.

speaking of my name, i need to start from my old reminiscent secondary school time. thank for the new co-curriculum system implemented back then, we used to seize every single chance to participate any program or activity that able to grant us the two pathetic marks in extra curriculum. being a scout as well, joining any camp organized by people outside the school is an honourable stuff to do while giving you a chance to know some new faces. so, i remember every time when i introduced myself to them, they would definitely ask me to repeat my name. if that didn’t happen, they would request for my name again the next time we met each other. from that time onwards, it started to bother me much that why people don’t know how to pronounce my name properly. and i thought maybe i just introduce my surname which is quah to them next time. it sounds like “kuah” as in sauce in malay. until this particular time when i went to a camp elsewhere in terengganu, i met this rather hilarious group of people. as childish as shin chan they were, they cracked a joke out of my name. they called me kuah lauk paoh. it didn’t piss me off to be frank. in fact i felt quite funny of them but i started to figure out a solution for that ever since. there came the foundation of zennway.

for my msn, email, whatever username-required account, it would be my alias without hesitate. nevertheless, i guess the nick has made too much appearance than it should be, people around me including kawan who know me for ages, started to refer me as zennway vehemently, even after several attempts to correct them. i am not oblivious anymore this time and i know a solution must be there. so i start to change whatever i can back to my real name. i can’t change the domain of this blog though, unless i recreate it. izenn is aesthetic i know thank you but call me zhengwei ok people. show respect to my papa’s piece of arts please. haha

currently, i introduce myself as zen. because it is still vague for ang mo to tell your name without actually know the spellings. likewise, i got confused when a handsome groupmate of mine from mauritius told me his name, phor bet. i wasn’t sure whether to call him phor bet, robert or no bird when i heard that for the first time. i call him handsome in the end. well, back to my name. i will get some feedbacks like cool name over time. that makes me feel proud that i am able to manipulate my name in way that incorporates angmo element but not forgetting my chinese pronunciation. haha. sometimes i try to be authentic and honest when it comes to relationship. i will, thus, tell them the spelling is actually zheng instead of zen. but some pokkai will then shrug and go “oh, not that cool actually”. this is quoted from ronald.
